Agreement reached with Safe through mediation

After five hours on overtime, a mediated settlement for the oil agreement was reached with the Norwegian Union of Energy Workers (Safe) early on 16 February. A strike was thereby averted.

This is primarily a frame agreement, which means in part that pay is determined/negotiated locally. No dispute existed between the parties over the national accord, which was therefore extended for a further two years.

“We’re satisfied that the two sides have reached agreement on a new collective pay settlement for the next period,” says lead negotiator Elisabeth Brattebø Fenne, who is acting director of organisation and employer policy at Norwegian Oil and Gas.

Safe took the opportunity of the mediation process to raise local matters. Norwegian Oil and Gas believes that such issues should not be taken up in these central talks. They made the mediation unnecessarily complicated.
